Immersion into Ancient Greece

Sunday was history and culture day for Mrs. El Abuelo and I. We joined a group heading to the Acropolis and the oppotunity to view the parthenon and other ancient buildings on that mountaintop high above Athens. What we didn't know was the Sunday had been designated by the local officials as "get in free day" and that most of Athens was also going to make the excursion at the same time. It was a bright and beautiful day as we began our climb. Somehow, as the ancient story of Icarus states, as we got closer to the sun, the warmer it got. Warm enough to melt wings and toast the toes. As humans are want to do, most people entered through the narrow passage to the mountaintop at approximately the same time. It is said that 11,000,000 visit the Acropolis every year. About 1/10 visited with us. It was way crowded. Every language of the world being spoken at the same time. We did manage to get a picture taken. Sphere: Related Content
