Weather - Storms Coming In

The view at breakfast from the cafe next to the Sebel Hotel.
The coffee just was not hot enough to remove the chill

Here is the weather map from the NZ Herald. We fly tomorrow to the middle of the North Island. Heavy rain is predicted but easing on Thursday (Wednesday in the U.S., when we really start to fish. Catching trout in the rain is not difficult but the fishing is mostly what is called "wet" fishing. Wet not because the fisherman is getting wet above the water but because you must get the fly down to fish by adding weight to the fly or by using a line that sinks or both. The fish won't be coming to the surface in the rain very often because there is not likely to be a hatch of insects on the surface for them to eat.

This is the secret of trout fishing. Think like a fish. Fish are always looking for food. Trout also don't look for food where it is least likely to be. So put your fly down into the water where the fish are, use a fly that is patterned after the type of insect form they are likely to find there and keep a sensitive finger on your line to react to the slightest indication that the trout is attracted to the fly.

Bummer about the rain. Radar makes the storm look nasty. Different weather pattern than we would see anywhere in the U.S. Hope the long term forcast is better.
