Great Exercise
With my guide(s) yesterday, Sean Andrews from England / Sweden and Hans from Rapid City, South Dakota (recent owner of the fly shop where I bought a fly rod for a friend who "retired" about 6 years ago) we drove south about an hour from the Tongariro Lodge and then walked and walked along a true New Zealand trout river, where every 100 meters or so there was a huge brown trout, visible, for the attentive scouting eyes of my guides. Hans caught about 8 or so and I got 3, including the "hog" of the day which is posted previously. about 24" maybe 7 pounds brown who "stole" my pheasant nymph from the fish I was actually trying to catch. A great battle ensued and I landed him on my Scott A2. We went over fences, down hillsides and up tall hills and across rocky slippery fjords. Great day. Got a charlie horse after a couple of Mac Brown beers. I am smiling in my pain.

My imagination created awesome imagery concerning the "battle." I could just see you fighting the fish as you climbed fences and hills and skated across the fjords with the pole in one hand and climbing with the other.
Or did they really happen at the same time????
I'm so happy for you that NZ is living up to the hype.
