Somewhere over the Pacific, 9:17 am
San Francisco time, approximately 11 hours into the flight to
Sydney I was in an iPod induced coma. Having successfully loaded many of my favorite string quartet music onto my iPod, I took two sominex and covered my head, as I had been advised by my world traveling seat mate, the guy who retired and knew Gary Moore’s son. He is now working on another venture and regularly does the “circuit” from Sydney to Singapore to Hong Kong to Tokyo. He is a very regular American kind of 60 year old, with a smile and a baseball cap (better to protect his eyes from light during his slumber on the way to Sydney). You see the goal is to sleep until the cabin attendants wake you up, serve you breakfast and say g’day as you hop off in Sydney at 830 am Sydney time. What time is it now? Well, like I said earlier, it is 917 am in San Franciso, the last time I set my watch and we have been flying since about 1018 pm on Saturday, SF time, 11 or so hours. Good sleep. Great advice from my neighbor. Only I woke up.
All the windows in the plane are covered so we don’t react to the light to early. I pulled mine up and saw nothing but stars everywhere, clear sky, intense points of bright light. I went back to sleep.
The next time time I woke up I raised the shade and looked out onto a field of diamonds. No clouds, no moon. The plane's wing and two engines were visible because of the star light. I think it was the big dipper upside down but am not sure. An awesome display of beauty by the Creator.
About three hours later I awoke again. The sky had changed. Now there were clouds and off at the horizon, well, I am not sure. Look for yourself. This is an accurate picture of what I saw. I am reminded of where my blessings come from and how my family makes my life complete.

All the windows in the plane are covered so we don’t react to the light to early. I pulled mine up and saw nothing but stars everywhere, clear sky, intense points of bright light. I went back to sleep. The cabin attendant kept bringing me more water. The experienced traveler next door had them bring him a full bottle.
I think that the night went well. I temporarily lost my glasses in the back of the seat, lost a camera chip when it popped out of the spring loaded slot on the Dell 420 and then found my eye mask laying next to the chip on the floor. Keeping track of stuff. Full time job.
