You would think that this would easy. Making weight that is. You know, just pack the bags with what you need and off you go. Not so easy in execution, however.
The camera has three lenses, a battery pack, batteries, a recharger, an external flash, a download cable to connect to the laptop, an external hard drive to back up the pictures, an extra battery and extra memory (Compact Flash) chips. All this fits into one nicely designed roller bag from Lowenpro. The tripod fits into the storage space in the fishpond bag (see earlier post, "What's in the bag?) with the three fly rods.
Clothing for 6 days (washable) is packed in the bag. The fly reels are in a separate case that fits nicely into the back pack. The boots and waders are in the fishpond bag. Now you start to deal with stuff. Toilet articles. A rain jacket. The lanyard with the fishing forceps, clippers etc.. A hat. Sunglasses. Mosquito repellant. Pills in case of kidney stone attack. Vouchers for the various B&B's etc etc. Too much. What to leave behind? The packing continues. Now it is a process of deciding what stays home. I think that the 1,000 page Pynchon novel gets let oout of the backpack............
